Windmill Opening!

Heage windmill will be ‘formally ‘opened on Saturday April 19th at 12 noon when BBC presenter Andy Potter will arrive on a vintage Tractor. Also present will be the Mayor of Amber Valley, Cllr Angela Ward and the Patron of the Windmill, Mr John Kirkland Chairman of the local engineering company Bowman and Kirkland. Following the official opening the mill staff will be ready to receive visitors and take them on guided tours of the 200 year old, 2* listed, windmill.

Andy Potter is a Derby lad through and through and his path to the microphone has been a varied one involving printing, teaching, sales and being an extra on quite a few television programmes. He’s got a fair few tales to tell about his life behind a microphone and in front of a camera; from interviewing at 3000 feet suspended from a hang glider, the personal cost to body hair when attaching recording equipment, or the perils of being a patient for Peak Practice. He says that he’s really looking forward to officially opening one of Derbyshire’s most iconic buildings and joining the line of illustrious personalities that have preceded him. He will be sure to have some ‘pithy ‘comments to make about the windmill.

Everyone is invited to join us for what will be a memorable event and there is plenty of free parking to hand.

The windmill will be open during 2014 (11-00am to 4-00pm) every weekend from April until the end of October, as well as all bank holidays.
