Undercooked kebab leads to Court fine

A Ripley fish bar owner who served undercooked chicken kebab was fined £500 and ordered to pay a Victim Surcharge of £50 and costs of £1,500, when he appeared before South Derbyshire Magistrates on 14 August.

The case against Mr Jagdev Hundel, from Sutton Coldfield Birmingham, owner of Maple Fish Bar, on Maple Avenue, came following a complaint by a customer to Amber Valley Borough Council. Part of the chicken had been kept by the complainant and could be sent to the laboratory for testing. This confirmed the chicken had not been adequately cooked.

The defendant pleaded guilty to two charges of selling under-cooked chicken kebab in March 2014 and lack of appropriate instruction, supervision and training to staff working at his shop.

The Magistrates recognised the serious nature of the offence and the responsibilities that food business operators have to their customers to ensure the food they serve is safe to eat.
