Alfreton Leisure Centre pool to closure

Essential maintenance work will mean that the main swimming pool at Alfreton Leisure Centre will be closed from Monday 8th Sept until late November.

The remedial works that are taking place are to the pool tiling on the base of the main swimming pool.

Throughout the duration of the work, the teaching/splash pool will be open as normal, and the timetabled sessions and swimming lessons, which normally take place in the teaching pool, will not be affected.

The pool is scheduled to re-open in November with a full resumption of normal services.

Peter Sharkey, General Manager, said: "We are temporarily closing the main pool to carry out essential maintenance to the pool tiling and we are doing everything we can to minimise the disruption and inconvenience this will no doubt cause to our customers. We are taking all possible measures to provide alternative provision at either of our sister sites at Ripley Leisure Centre and William Gregg VC Leisure Centre in Heanor".

Councillor Tony Holmes, Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Health at Amber Valley Borough Council commented: “We are obviously disappointed that the pool has to close for these essential repairs, particularly as it only opened in 2009 and is so well used by the public. The Centre was built through a Private Finance Initiative and it is critical that the matter is fully investigated and repaired to ensure it remains in top condition for future generations. We appreciate that our regular swimmers will be inconvenienced during the Autumn but the timetable for the repairs was planned to ensure that the pool was available throughout the school summer holidays. Checks have been completed at the pools in Ripley and Heanor and there is no sign of any similar problems with the pool tiles there.”

You can find the times for swimming sessions by visiting www.placesforpeopleleisure.org and choosing the leisure centre you wish to visit.
