Court fine for flyposter

A Belper man has been left with a bill of £686.00 after being prosecuted for flyposting.

Mr Lee Andrews of Whitemoor Lane, pleaded guilty to displaying advertisements for his business without the consent of Amber Valley Borough Council, contrary to the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations and the Town and Country Planning Act, at Derby Magistrates Court on Thursday 7 August 2014.

He was ordered to pay a fine of £166, Victim Surcharge of £20, and costs of £500.

Mr Andrews admitted in court to putting up posters advertising his business on street furniture in Belper and Ripley. He had previously had enforcement action taken against him in 2013 for similar offences.

It is an offence to display any posters, or signs on buildings or street furniture without the consent of the owner. Such posters or signs can be a distraction to motorists and can cause public places to look unsightly.

If you want to report any incidences of fly-posting please ring our helpline on 01773 841335 or you can report it online by visiting www.ambervalley.gov.uk/flyposting.
