Longest artwork to flow through Belper

Derbyshire’s longest ever artwork will be welcomed to Belper as it flows along the length of the Derwent.

The Belper River Gardens offers the perfect vista to watch the passing of this impressive project. Illuminated globes and light spheres will take to the water to be shepherded down the Derwent by boat. The illuminated light display will be accompanied by a brass band, bringing our own extravaganza of the senses to the Borough.

Everyone is invited to come along to this unique event at Belper River Gardens on Tuesday 28th October. 6pm - 7pm. Admission is Free. The Derwent Pulse is a one off project so do not miss this exclusive opportunity to see this spectacular event.

Councillor Chris Emmas-Williams, Amber Valley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, commented: “We are delighted that this nationally recognised event is coming to our borough. It is a free event and will give a fantastic display of light and illumination progressing down the River Derwent accompanied by a brass band. This unique display against the sensational back drop of the river gardens will be worth residents taking the opportunity to have a ‘one off’ experience.”

The light installation brings up to 1,000 lights which will be shepherded by riverside communities to create a light flow the length of the Derwent, exploring the river and its heritage.

The installation creates Derbyshire’s longest ever artwork, a Derwent Valley Mill World Heritage Site commission by Charles Monkhouse and takes places across a month in locations up and down the Derwent.
