Free parking extended for Amber Valley residents
Amber Valley residents will benefit from extended free parking in the Council’s car parks, after members of the Borough Council voted to provide every household
with an annual parking permit allowing free parking after 4pm in all of the Council’s pay and display car parks, and before 10am in Heanor. The permit will be included with the annual Council Tax demand sent in January each year, to every household in the Borough.
For a fee of £2 residents will also be able to upgrade to an enhanced permit, which will also allow them free parking on a Sunday. For the over 60’s there will be an additional benefit of free parking after 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In addition to the free parking permit, the Council also voted to increase the length of the Christmas free parking period up to 27 December, to support local traders and enable residents to benefit from free parking on what is traditionally the first day of the sales. Town Centre events will also be supported by providing some free parking during a key annual event in each of the Borough’s four town centres.
Commenting on the initiative, Councillor John McCabe, Cabinet Member for Environment stated: “I know that parking charges are a concern for local residents and traders and so it gives me very great pleasure to be able to provide additional free parking to every household in the Borough.”
