Derby Book Festival ticket news
Tickets are selling fast for the first Derby Book Festival with some events now sold out. The organisers have today announced some special ticket offers to ensure all events are full to capacity.
On Saturday 6 June Sarah Waters, Booker shortlisted author of Fingersmith, Tipping the Velvet and The Paying Guests, will be appearing at QUAD at 2pm in conversation with TV and radio presenter, writer, performer, and campaigner Amy Lamé. Anyone who is coming to this event can now buy tickets for £1 for one of three other events at QUAD on 6 June: Alison Moore at 11.30am, Antonia Hodgson & S D Sykes at 3.30pm or for Alison McQueen at 5pm. This offer is only available by calling the box office at QUAD on 01332 290606 and has limited availability.
Visitors can kick-start their literary day at a free event on Saturday 6 June – The Nation’s Reading Group On Air – with Dymphna Flynn, the producer of Radio 4’s flagship programme Bookclub. She will reveal how the programme works, how she and the presenter James Naughtie chose the books and what it’s like to run a book group with the author present. Tickets are free, but booking is required.
Events that are now sold out include Simon Armitage at Déda, the Opening Event, Derby Reads, in The Roundhouse, the Festival Lunch with Dame Penelope Lively and Afternoon Tea with Persephone Books: both events at the Cathedral Quarter Hotel.
Liz Fothergill, Chair of Derby Book Festival said: “Organising the first Derby Book Festival has been a huge feat but thanks to the support of so many partners, sponsors and volunteers we have been able to put together a programme with over 60 events for all ages and interests. There was no way of knowing how popular a book festival would be, but the strength of ticket sales certainly suggests that Derby has taken the festival to its heart!”
With only two days until the start of the first Derby Book Festival, excitement is mounting in the city. Over 1000 people are following the Festival on Twitter and the organisers expect to reach 1000 likes on Facebook during the Festival. The Festival received national media attention in The Independent on Sunday this week with a feature on organising the first Festival.
