Man who died in Derby may have been hit by a car

An elderly man found injured in a Derby street may have been hit by a car which did not stop, police can reveal.

The 74-year-old man was discovered in Coronation Street, Rosehill, at around 5am Thursday July 23.

He was badly injured and was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital, where he later died.

A post mortem examination has revealed that he had suffered head and chest injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

Detectives are now trying to trace a dark hatchback car which was seen in the area early that morning.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the area of Coronation Street, Princes Street, Holcombe Street or Harrington Street between 4am – 5am Thursday or anyone who saw a collision.

Police are also asking local garage owners to get in touch if anyone has brought a damaged car in for repair.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 68 of July 23. You can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
