New police campaign to tackle nuisance motorbikes in Alfreton and Somercotes

Safer Neighbourhood officers in Alfreton and Somercotes are launching a new campaign in a bid to tackle nuisance motorbikes in the area.

Operation Coolamon will get underway tomorrow, Friday, August 1 and run until the end of September with the aim of educating motorbike riders around the issue and reassuring local residents.

Officers will be stepping up high visibility patrols in problem hot spots including the areas of Pye Bridge, the upper field and waste ground around Amber Valley Rugby Club and Wimsey Way in Somercotes.

They will be handing out leaflets to those found to be causing a nuisance and speaking to them about the community issue and the law. Officers will be issuing Section 59 warnings where appropriate and seizing vehicles if necessary.

PCSO Christopher Bannister from the Alfreton Town Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “There is an ongoing issue with nuisance motorbikes in the area and so my colleagues and I are getting together to help tackle the issue.

“We hope to offer some reassurance to local residents through undertaking patrols in the problem areas and offering words of advice to persistent offenders in a bid to deter the behaviour. I would encourage people to report any suspicious or nuisance behaviour to us by calling 101 or 999 if a crime is taking place.”
