Police in Swanwick remind drivers to park responsibly on white zig-zag lines
Drivers in Swanwick are being reminded to park responsibly after concerns they are putting safety at risk.
Police are stepping up patrols and raising awareness of the issue of motorists stopping and parking on the white zig-zag lines on Derby Road, at the pedestrian crossing, which is near to the junction with High Street.
Officers are putting up posters and delivering leaflets in the area to advise drivers, and appealing to people to find safer places to park.
White zig-zag lines can be found at zebra crossings and motorists are not permitted to park, stop or wait on these lines.
Drivers could risk penalties of up to a £100 fine and three points on their driving licence if they ignore the restrictions.
PCSO Richard Plant of the Somercotes and Riddings Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “White zig-zag lines are put at pedestrian crossings to ensure people crossing the road can have a clear view of the traffic.
“A clear view is especially important for children, older or more vulnerable people who may take longer to cross the road, and could still be making their way across when the traffic light turns to green. If motorists park in the white zig-zag lines, they are putting others safety at risk.”
PCSO Plant added: “I would encourage drivers to find an alternative place to park a short distance away, and help ensure that our roads stay safe for all.”
