Derbyshire has a wealth of fascinating history and we are keen to celebrate some of the important people and events linked to the county.rnThat’s why we’re introducing our new Blue Plaque Award scheme and we want you to tell us which people, buildings and sites you think really deserve recognition.
And you’ll get the chance to vote for the winning schemes when the shortlist is announced in March next year. Winners will be published in Derbyshire First in June.
Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Culture Andrew Lewer said: “The scheme will help us promote the lives and historical importance of famous local people, celebrate our cultural and historical heritage, build pride in our communities and help support tourism.”rnNominations can cover such themes as: war heroes and memorials, local heroes and famous people, cultural and heritage connections, philanthropists and entrepreneurs and buildings of historic or architectural importance.
People commemorated in Blue Plaques must have been deceased for at least 20 years. Owners of nominated properties must agree to the nomination. Nominations are now open and you make them online by filling in the nomination form at:
DCC Blue Plaque Nomination Form
