Kathryn Roberts And Sean Lakeman In Concert

26th January 2019
(Doors open 7:00 pm for 7:30 start )

Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have long established themselves as one of the UK folk scene’s most rewarding, and enduring partnerships. With a story that includes over 20 years of music making with the likes of Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Levellers, Fotheringay, Kate Rusby, and Show of Hands, they have consolidated themselves as pillars of modern British folk.

This Dartmoor-based husband and wife duo has twice won the coveted Best Duo title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards (2016 & 2013). They have an enviable reputation for imaginative song-writing and outstanding musicianship. Kathryn and Sean consistently deliver assured, distinctive performances whether live or recorded.

Kathryn and Sean’s intimacy, and strength of passion on stage, has won them many fans and an enviable reputation as ‘songwriters par excellence’. They have never been trapped in a groove. They are always bold and innovative, mixing traditional song arrangements with their self-penned material, which reels from the bitter to the sweet; the wry to the sad; the political to the passive.

A lauded singer, one of the finest of her generation, Kathryn Roberts is held in the highest regard by peers and music fans alike. Born and raised in the South Yorkshire mining town of Barnsley, Kathryn has simply sung since she could speak. She has performed around the world, including with Kate Rusby and folk-pop group ‘Equation’.

Sean Lakeman is one of the unsung heroes of British folk music. He was recognised at an early age as one of the most promising guitarists around. He learned his trade, and travelled the world for a decade with ‘Equation’, before deciding, with Kathryn, to return to their English folk roots, and gig as an acoustic duo.
