Hundreds flock to Ripley

Photographs Photo Gallery

Hundreds of people flocked to Ripley Market Place last Friday night to see the new low energy, white Christmas lights make their debut.

It was freezing cold, damp and the mist of breath hung in the air. The Amber Sound 107.2FM roadshow was there entertaining the crowds along with Carol singers, a ventriloquist and so much more.

The whole event was broadcast on your community station Amber Sound FM who were broadcasting live from 1pm at the market place.

The turnout was amazing and you could cut the atmosphere with a knife as the moment to unveil the new lights approached.

There had been some criticism over the choice of Christmas ’tree’ as Ripley Town Council had taken the bold step to move to a more modern conical display tree. The criticism evaporated when the lights went live and the beautiful scene was unveiled.

There was a moment when the Mayor kept us waiting for the lighting of the final piece of lighting which came a minute or so later - The waving snowman was back in his rightful place and was greeted with cheers from a satisfied public..

Late night shopping was also on offer with the streets packed of people taking advantage of the extra shopping time.

Photographs of many of you at the event are displayed in our Photo Gallery so check to see if you are on there!.

Thanks to all who attended and supported the town and Amber Sound FM
