Core Strategy Consultation

Further opportunity for residents to have their say on future development in Amber Valley

Amber Valley Borough Council has published a number of proposed changes to its Core Strategy, which will form part of the new Local Plan and set out policies and proposals for the use and development of land in the Borough up to 2028.

The proposed changes are primarily in response to the requirement to review the need for new housing within the Borough and the wider Derby area, to find additional sites that will contribute towards meeting that need and to ensure the Borough has a secure five year supply of housing land. The requirement stems from the Government Planning Inspector’s suspension of the examination of the Local Plan in May.

Consultation on the proposed changes will start on 28 July 2014 and will be open for 6 weeks, until 8 September 2014. It will include a series of public events to be held at various locations within the Borough, at which the details of the proposed changes will be on display and officers from the Borough Council will be available to answer any questions. Full details of the dates, times and locations of the events are available on the Borough Council’s website at www.ambervalley.gov.uk/communityplanninglatestnews. It has been necessary to hold the consultation over this period to keep on schedule for the examination of the Local Plan resuming in November.

Councillor Chris Emmas-Williams, the Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “I urge everyone to take the opportunity to view the proposed changes to our Core Strategy and to let us have any comments by 8 September."

“The Borough Council remains committed to ensuring that we have a ’sound’ Core Strategy as soon as possible as it forms the basis for all planning decisions and prevents decisions, to a certain extent, being taken out of the hands of local councillors. The proposed changes have not been put forward lightly as we recognise the concerns about the impact of new housing development on local communities. We will fully consider comments received during the consultation before confirming which further sites should be submitted to the Inspector for further examination later this year.”
